Indiegogo Perk: the Fulton Fan
KarinKnits Designs has created a new pattern, the Fulton Fan, in honor of our Indiegogo campaign. She's used fingering-weight yarn to create a layer of lace that covers a paper fan.
When asked about her inspiration for the project, she said:
I'm a fan of Anzula, and thought that a literal fan would be a humorous relief from the heat. In researching the use of fan bases, I saw that many people order them for special occasions, but have a decorative print put on them. In this case, the decoration is knitted, worked in the round like a toe-up sock, slipped over the fan, and sewn between the reeds. I can see these as great gift ideas, and would be an unexpected treat for the recipient.
Karin created this project and also created kits to share with our Indiegogo supporters. In your kit you will receive a copy of the pattern, a paper fan, and enough of our fingering-weight yarn to knit your fan. The pattern also includes sourcing information so that you can purchase more fans to knit for all of your summer events.
I asked Karin what inspired her to volunteer the project and kits, and she said:
I grew up in Fresno, so I can imagine how intensely hot it must be to operate dye pots in those conditions. The economy in some parts of town was struggling even when I moved away for college back in the mid-80's. I love supporting local-to-California companies, especially from my home town; and mostly I really love supporting Anzula. The story of what you all are doing to help the employees to earn a living wage is an important one, and something not every small company can do (certainly not a goal of many). The colors and fibers that you gals create are uniquely awesome, and your ready willingness to support designers is unbelievable.
The fan kits are limited, and some are already spoken for, so visit our Indiegogo page right away before they are all gone!
