Meet the Designer: Mindy Wilkes

If you haven't heard yet, we are so excited about the pattern booklets that were recently released by Stitch Sprouts and feature 3 of our most popular yarns - For Better or WorstedCricket, and Squishy! We have been introducing you to some of the designers who contributed to the booklets. Today's spotlight is on Mindy Wilkes.

What drew you to designing?

I started designing because I had an idea for a shawl and couldn't find an existing pattern that was what I wanted. That shawl idea became Holden.

What's your favorite LYS?

My favorite LYS is the one where I work part-time. It's Lambikin's Hideaway in Hamilton, Ohio. If you're ever in the Cincinnati area, you should definitely stop by, especially if it's a weekend because I'll be there.

Favorite Anzula colorway? Line?

I don't think I can pick a favorite colorway. That's too hard! My favorite line, right now, is Cricket. It's just so nice.

Brunswick, a sister shawl to Holden.

Do you have other patterns available in our yarns?

I have a shawl design, Brunswick, that uses either Meridian or Mermaid.

Tell us about your project in the booklet!

Lesage is a big comfy shawl that is worked from side to side in garter stitch with a simple lace edging. The edging is worked as you go so there's minimal finishing. The pattern uses two skeins of Cricket so it makes a generously sized shawl to wrap around yourself.

Favorite TV show to watch / music to listen to while knitting?

I love watching mystery series on Netflix or Acorn TV. My favorites are Miss Marple, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Midsomer Murders, and Vera. I'll watch Miss Marple and Miss Fisher over and over and over again. For music, I listen to several playlists on Spotify; Southern Gothic, Appalachia Rising, and Sweetgrass are my favorites.

Do you teach classes? Where?

I teach a variety of classes at Lambikin's Hideaway quite often. I've also taught classes at a few other shops around Cincinnati.

You can catch up with Mindy on her website, Twitter, Instagram, and her Ravelry group!
