Indiegogo Perk: Patterns from Rock + Purl

One of our Indiegogo perks is a special package of patterns from Rock + Purl. Ruth has given us copies of her patterns Echoes of Winter, Mediterranean, Maighdean Mhara, and Rockpool to share with our Indiegogo contributors. (This is a separate perk from the rotating pattern perk I wrote about on Tuesday.)

I asked Ruth why she volunteered to help with our campaign, and she wrote such a beautiful explanation that I want to share her words with you.

The first time I got in touch with Anzula, I was excited.

I had only had the privilege of touching ONE of their yarns and I was smitten. When I got my chance to design with their yarns, smitten became love - have you ever felt a good yarn? That's their yarn. It's not often I find yarns that have been dyed so beautifully, where there's highlights and lowlights, depending on how sunshine reflects off the skein. It's not often these yarns come from a company where everyone who works there is dedicated, fun, friendly and caring.

Sabrina is the leader in this operation. She manages the team with enthusiasm and always has a smile on her face. I am honoured to call her a friend as well as a colleague and enabler. I am constantly reminded of how rare it is to find a person with these qualities, until I look at her team -  they are just as cheerful and helpful as she is.

If you have the opportunity to meet them you will not forget them. And it's this fun-loving attitude that transfers through the yarn to create those Anzula bright saturated shades I love so much (Key Lime, anyone??), and their care and attention that appears in their soft-spectrum colorways (I never found a pink as perfect as Taffy).

Become part of the Anzula family by donating to the campaign.

Because I couldn't have designed some of the beautiful patterns I'm donating if I had not been inspired by their yarn.

Indiegogo Perk: the Fulton Fan

KarinKnits Designs has created a new pattern, the Fulton Fan, in honor of our Indiegogo campaign. She's used fingering-weight yarn to create a layer of lace that covers a paper fan.

When asked about her inspiration for the project, she said:

I'm a fan of Anzula, and thought that a literal fan would be a humorous relief from the heat.  In researching the use of fan bases, I saw that many people order them for special occasions, but have a decorative print put on them.  In this case, the decoration is knitted, worked in the round like a toe-up sock, slipped over the fan, and sewn between the reeds.  I can see these as great gift ideas, and would be an unexpected treat for the recipient.

Karin created this project and also created kits to share with our Indiegogo supporters. In your kit you will receive a copy of the pattern, a paper fan, and enough of our fingering-weight yarn to knit your fan. The pattern also includes sourcing information so that you can purchase more fans to knit for all of your summer events.

I asked Karin what inspired her to volunteer the project and kits, and she said:

I grew up in Fresno, so I can imagine how intensely hot it must be to operate dye pots in those conditions.  The economy in some parts of town was struggling even when I moved away for college back in the mid-80's.  I love supporting local-to-California companies, especially from my home town; and mostly I really love supporting Anzula.  The story of what you all are doing to help the employees to earn a living wage is an important one, and something not every small company can do (certainly not a goal of many).  The colors and fibers that you gals create are uniquely awesome, and your ready willingness to support designers is unbelievable.

The fan kits are limited, and some are already spoken for, so visit our Indiegogo page right away before they are all gone!
